This outpost of Nobu Matsuhisa's restaurant empire in the Hard Rock Hotel is known for inventive and fresh sushi and hot dishes created with a modern Japanese-Peruvian flair. The sexy if rather noisy room with scorched ash wood treatments and jade-green walls makes a cool space to enjoy Nobu classics like raw white fish tiradito (the Peruvian equivalent of sashimi) with yuzu citrus, lobster in...

Celebrity Chef Nobu Matsuhisa has earned a devoted worldwide following for his creative sushi and Asian fusion cuisine. Following a 3-year stint in Peru (hence the seviche and Pisco sours on the Nobu menu), Matsuhisa found himself in Los Angeles, where he became friends with actor Robert De Niro, now one of his partners for the Nobu franchise installed at the Hard Rock Hotel . You may hear...

International celeb-chef Nobu Matsuhisa chose the Hard Rock Hotel for the 17th location of his famed sushi house. Four words: black cod with miso. Whether it's that signature dish, a yuzu-slathered specialty, or the incredible monkfish liver (for the adventurous), Nobu lives up to its hefty reputation.

World class sushi spot 'rocks' into the Gaslamp with upscale Japanese and a swanky dining room.

In Short
On the left side of the Hard Rock Hotel lobby, the thick wood doors leading through a dark corridor feels more like the entrance to a swanky New York nightclub than a Gaslamp...

I love Nobu and have eaten at the Bahamas and Miami locations. San Diego was disappointing and I'm so glad I ate at the other locations first or else I would have totally written off this restaurant. The service was great but the execution of the food was terrible in comparison to the others; poorly sliced sashimi, overcooked black cod, burnt dessert. I don't mind paying good money for...

Noise level was loud. Sashimi was good but the rolls were marginal at best. Service was excellent. Could have been an off night.

Average food. Poor service. Very very slow wait staff. Did not get water until 20 min after sitting, for example.

Nice place, great atmosphere and wonderful service. Food did not come close to the hype or the price. Sushi was sub standard. It was fun, but next time will go back for a drink and eat elsewhere.

Nobu is a popular Japanese fusion restaurant located inside of the Hard Rock Hotel in the Gaslamp Quarter. Matching nicely with its Asian fusion cuisine, Nobu stays in theme with its decor, blending different elements of Asia into a modern, sleek design. Service is prompt, attentive and friendly. The ambiance is lively and energetic. The food plays off of Nobu's other elements perfectly,...
