So I took my two children there to learn piano and myself to learn the guitar. in around one hear all of us were playing both ways by ear and by reading music. Red flag #1:Pushing classes: If a place is so mechanized that they water down the quality of private lessons to the level of a class then you will NEVER receive the main benefit of quality private instruction; a program designed for you
Red flag #2 registration fee: Any facility who pulls this stunt is ALWAYS going to be digging into your pockets and finding sneaky ways to require you to buy things you don't really need.
Red flag #3--Evasive about number of years their instructors have been teaching and just saying "a long time I don't know." This is the MOST IMPORTANT QUALIFICATION and if they try to distract you from that point, that means that THEY know that teacher is probably not worth nearly the price they want to charge you. Anything less than 10 years experience is considered inexperienced and you shouldn't be paying more than $20 per hour for them privately or $10 for class but places like this will BS you
Red Flag #4 REQUIRING everyone to read music might appear to be admirable on the surface but it's really just laziness. When teaching the topic the instructor does not have to know anything about the student and it;s a topic that can be taught en mass,
However for rhythm section instruments like what they teach here, reading music is only useful for a small percentage of students. That means that the MAJORITY of students are wasting their time an money.
A private instructor is supposed to operate in their clients' best interest and that means providing the RIGHT TOOLS for the STUDENTS not just making them collect skills "just in case someday they will need it."
Red flag #5 attempts to demonstrate stylistic examples are generic at best and blatantly inaccurate most of the time which is very common, ironically, from graduate school level teachers.

They are VERY evasive about the most basic questions like price and scheduling but indicate in their ads that have prices "starting at" Those are 2 red flags because no one hides good news and there is no reason to have complicated price "packages."
