Help us make it rightIn November 2003, Region opened its doors under the guidance of its owners, Chef Michael Stebner and Sous Chef Allyson Colwell, both formerly of the Nine-Ten restaurant in La Jolla. The overriding philosophy at Region is all about enjoying food in its original, pure and delicious simplicity. Chef Stebner's style of cuisine, based on preparing local produce and fresh ingredients using simple...
This restaurant is one of the new shining stars of the San Diego restaurant scene, but also one with the greatest potential for improvement. Region is the personal project of chef Michael Stebner (formerly of Nine-Ten) who, with sous-chef Allyson Colwell and dessert chef Jack Fisher, continues to celebrate locally grown produce and "slow food" (the Italian cooking movement that's the opposite...
Region is a good restaurant to go to when you want to have a nice dinner for two. Everyday low prices. Good selection of combination platters on their menu. The service we had was fast, the waitress was exceptionally friendly and accomodating.
Region uses local vendors for as much of their food as possible, and it shows in the great flavors of their unique dishes. The menu changes based on the availability of fresh ingredients. They also offer inventive cocktails.
This is an amazing place. An ever-changing menu of the freshest local foods you'll find anywhere. Entrees are simple but still as sophisticated as anything you'll have in New York or San Francisco. Be sure to try it before it closes on October 21st.

A casual but chic regional Californian restaurant in bohemian (at least by San Diego standards) Hillcrest. Aspires to Chez Panisse-like standards, but falls a bit short. Pork entree was tender and flavorful, but not outstanding. A decent option in a neighborhood with good restaurants
A staffer describes the choices at Mixx as "food that knows no ethnic boundaries." That said, if your taste tends to embrace the eclectic, then this will be your home away from home. Try the wonderful Jerk Seasoned Duck, an entree with the breast grilled and the leg roasted. It is served with papaya mango chutney and a plantain cake. Now that is enough to satisfy the most eclectic taste. There...
Rich in talented owner-chefs who use the finest local produce to create traditional recipes, Region is one of the most intriguing restaurants in San Diego. The kitchen's approach nears perfection with dishes like veal osso buco, roast pork with onion-olive dressing, and pan-gilded skate (a type of ray) that flakes at the touch of a fork. The menu changes daily, but count on fine sweets like a...
