Located in the Mission Valley section of San Diego, this historic mission was founded by Father Junipero Serra, who started a string of 21 missions along the California coast.
A National Historic Landmark and California Historic Landmark, California's first mission was founded in 1769 by Blessed Junipero Serra. An active Catholic Parish in the Diocese of San Diego, Mission San Diego de Alcala was the first of the 21 missions, known as the Mother of the Missions.
