Editorial reviews from the web (2)

Since 1995, this comfortably chic eatery has catered to a crowd of lawyers, doctors and ladies who lunch. The softly lit dining room is flanked by banquette-lined walls and a piano lounge. A simple, seasonal menu includes starters such as crab-and-guacamole tostadas and grilled asparagus with spiced olives and goat cheese. Entrees vary from mussles sizzling in butter to sirloin steak with crisp-edged frites. For serious sweet tooths, there's the decadent molten chocolate cake.

From the moment it opened in 1996, Mel’s has been praised as a Denver hot spot. Because of its friendly atmosphere and good food, it remains a favorite hang-out for the Cherry Creek crowd. Where to start? The menu was TINY, the waitress couldn't be bothered to talk to us about what was available.. so, we chose what sounded like the best of a bunch of bad choices.. wedge salad, calamari, and NY strip steak, medium rare.
I specifically told the waitress I dislike bleu cheese so please do not put it on my salad.. the sad wedge salad was served... with nothing but a strip of bacon on top and a metal side cup of thousand island dressing... okaaaay.... hmm...
The calamari was overcooked and dry...
The bread was stale and hard.. and served with margarine.. yuk!
When the...

My mom and I went intpo Mel's twice hoping for some good food. It was a huge disappointment each time. It took several minutes for anyone to notice us waiting for a table and then it was at least 10-15 minutes before anyone asked if we wanted water or drinks. Our food order was similarly delayed and then, when it came, there was nothing on the plate! Their crab sandwich was the worst of all four entrees we had (which is saying something because the other three were very disappointing). Imagine a huge slice of awful bread with 2 tablespoons of crab with no dressing, one small piece of...

this place is gone - screwed by the greedy rich developers ritzing up cherry creek. it will be missed. irreplacable

Denver classic.

Taking its moniker from proprietor Mel Masters, this cheery Cherry Creek bistro is a perennial favorite of local and national critics. Italian and French traditions are injected with the occasional Asian spin, and the seasonal menu can always be counted on for its delectable mussels La Cagouille, Caesar salad, and exceptional grilled-salmon and beef-tenderloin dinners.
