What the community has to say about Mecca Restaurant

Information about this business (4)

Find a restaurant, make restaurant reservations and read and write restaurant reviews. Restaurant Row helps you find the best restaurants by zip code, city, state, or name.

The Mecca is Raleigh's most historic eatery, serving the downtown Raleigh area since the Great Depression. The Mecca is not trendy. We are a mom-and-pop store that specializes in the kind of comfort food that evokes a simpler time.

Editorial reviews from the web (1)

Dishing out American diner classics since 1930.

In Short
Its vertical neon marquee might suggest Vegas rather than Raleigh, but don't be fooled--plenty of Southern agendas have been set at this restaurant, only a conversation away from...

Mecca - a Downtown Raleigh "Landmark

Average Rating

Had lunch today with Billy and Doncella. I had read pretty good reviews for Mecca, so we decided to try it - it's been in downtown Raleigh for a loooong time.
The place kind of shows its age, but you could describe it as charming.
Doncella and I had the same dish - chicken with gravy and "pastry"; she had...

Saturday Brunch

Wonderful friendly diner. A definite for breakfast or brunch downtown.
Had a half order of biscuits and gravy with eggs on the side. The homemade biscuits are worth a try!!
The gravy is how one would expect a Southern sausage gravy. A hint of crushed red pepper on top was just right.
The decor while old is relaxing.
Fast service...

Amazing since 1930! The chicken is to "die for!" And I have never eaten a cheeseburger without ketchup until visiting the Mecca. My mouth is watering now thinking of it! It's a must see! Don't go to the tourist traps.....go to a place that the locals visit!
