Had lunch today with Billy and Doncella. I had read pretty good reviews for Mecca, so we decided to try it - it's been in downtown Raleigh for a loooong time.

Enjoyed our visit! Oldies playing a smidge too loud - waitress singing along and kept hot coffee coming - tasty routine breakfast faire - yummy would go back!
Wonderful friendly diner. A definite for breakfast or brunch downtown.
Had a half order of biscuits and gravy with eggs on the side. The homemade biscuits are worth a try!!
The gravy is how one would expect a Southern sausage gravy. A hint of crushed red pepper on top was just right.

While the rest of downtown Raleigh is selling out to fancy cuisine, Mecca is keeping it real. Seating is limited to booths of no more than 4, and the menu is also limited. Amazing since 1930! The chicken is to "die for!" And I have never eaten a cheeseburger without ketchup until visiting the Mecca. My mouth is watering now thinking of it! It's a must see! Don't go to the tourist traps.....go to a place that the locals visit!
