The singing servers in this Opera Plaza eatery have made Max's a San Francisco legend. The food at Max's at Opera Cafe has inspired several smaller Max's (the Diner, Max's Eatz, Sweet Max's) to spring up all over the Bay Area. Besides opera, what can one expect at Max's? Chopped chicken liver and onions, hamburgers and fries, or pastrami on rye. Just about any calorie-packed deli-style...
It's the first time we visited this shop and have avery good experience.
This deli-diner offers huge sandwiches, traditional blue plate specials, low-fat dishes and lots of salads. Cakes, pies and crisps are served in big portions. Max's is a good place to go for a quick bite before the opera. Other locations.

Corned beef sandwich did NOT taste fresh. It was very dry and appears that it could have been sitting in a refrigerator for at least 1-2 days. . Meat was shaved instead of sliced. Portion was nice, however, I would have preferred a FRESH sandwich. I will order something else in the future.
We had a great time. The food was yummy. The music was awesome (one of the waiters sang showtunes, VERY WELL.)
Our waitress was superlative. I wish I could remember her name. She sang with the musicians, has a wonderful sense of humor, was competent and attentive and a real asset to the restaurant. The food was good but she made the dinner a wonderful experience.
Max's is dependable and friendly. We were a larger party and our only concern was that the food didn't come out at the same time for everyone.
Max's is a great place to have dinner before the opera. The food is good and plentiful (they've never heard of small portions), the price is fair, and the locations is ideal. Much better than the options at the opera house itself.

It has a diverse range of dishes, including Chinese chicken salad, a corned beef Reuben sandwich and rib eye steak. This is a great place to go before the opera or the symphony. The singing waiters will definitely get you in the mood for the show.
Park in the garage under the Opera House. Street parking can be tough.
