I wanted to try this place so talked the wife into eating here when visiting NYC. Neither of us are vegetarians, but we both love vegetables and I've always wanted to try falafel. The falafels are always fresh and extra crispy. Toppings bar has so many options: fried broccoli & cauliflower, corn, bulgar wheat, beets, marinated carrots, tomatoes, onions, pickled eggplant, cilantro salsa, tomato salsa, olives, yogurt sauce, tahini, etc. The restaurant is tiny, so your best bet is to go at off peak times or have your food to go. I am not a vegetarian, but whooa, their food is just so delicious. I found them by accident at Central Park, North. The service is too great, and they are reasonable too in terms of prices. I could tell from the taste-buds that I need to now be a vegetarian...excellent.
To say Middle Eastern restaurant Maoz Vegetarian is famous for its falafel would be an understatement -- the joint, which set up its first outpost in Amsterdam, makes chick pea patties that top the list of many a meat-shunning foodie. Plus, you can't beat meals (with salad and juice included) that ring in under ten bucks.
If you're skimping on carbs, you can skip the pita and fill a large salad box for $7.95 (includes juice).
Soda is available and if you don't mind your beverage at room temperature, try the fresh-squeezed apple, orange and carrot juice ($3).
Pita comes in white or whole wheat, although the white is fluffier and tastes better with the falafel.
In true fast food fashion, combo meals are available: The $7.75 meal deal gets you a sandwich with all the trimmings, fries and a soft drink (or juice for an extra dollar).
