X2O Xaviars on the Hudson is Peter X Kelly's latest addition to the Xaviars Restaurant Group. It sits in the water on the only turn of the century Victorian pier still in use on the Hudson River. X2O's Main Dining Salon's 25 foot vaulted ceiling and 3 walls of glass frame offers views of the George Washington and Tappan Zee Bridges, as well as sunsets over the Palisades. Guests encounter dishes...

British chef Paul Liebrandt has teased palates (and gravity, with some of his vertical creations) at many top-tier New York restaurants, from Atlas to Papillon. Along the way, the adventurous chef has been finessing his craft, as evidenced by his splendid menu at the posh Gilt in the Palace Hotel. On paper, some of Liebrandt’s dishes can sound iffy – parfait infused with chili? – but in your...

The Gilded Age of the late nineteenth century aligns with the golden age of today with the unveiling of Gilt, a restaurant and bar at The New York Palace Hotel. This contemporary and sophisticated dining experience begins just beyond the wrought iron courtyard gates of The Hotel's historic Villard Mansion. Along with an innovative and inspiring menu created by Justin Bogle, Gilt offers a...

The Runner, a Rustic American Restaurant in Clinton Hill

Earlier this month chef Andrew Burman, a Court Street Grocers vet, and Robert Honeycutt, former front-of-house manager at Gilt, opened The Runner in the space that once housed Anima. Equipped with a wood-fired oven, Burman serves a menu inspired by American cuisine circa 1900. Sides and appetizers include bone marrow with escargot, potato hash browns, and breads that range from popovers to...

Logo fiends with a penchant for interlocking F's fawn over the "bags and shoes, the true stars" of the show, while clotheshorses leap for the "fashionable and classic Italian" apparel at this locus of luxury where you "get what you pay for"; boasting "elegant woodwork" and travertine marble, this "spacious" Peter Marino–designed emporium evokes an aquatic idyll that "does Fifth Avenue proud";...

The Midtown “gem” Cer té Cafe is also a “best-kept secret” for catering, providing a globally inflected lineup of “creative and generally tasty” fare à la “gourmet sandwiches”, salads and hot dishes to corporate clients in the vicinity; they also service full-scale events, including past affairs at venues such as the Whitney and Carnegie Hall.

"Always an extraordinary experience", this "magnificent" New American – voted Westchester/Hudson Valley's Most Popular restaurant – boasts a "stunning setting" in a "glass-walled box" on the Yonkers pier ("even the ladies' room" has "breathtaking" Hudson River views) coupled with equally "gorgeous", "exciting" plates from the "unbelievably creative" chef-owner Peter Kelly, who "often makes the...

Everything’s pretty “fancy” at this New American “jewel box” in the Palace Hotel, where the “beautifully presented” prix fixe–only menus are shuttled by “on-point” staffers in a “remarkable”, “Versailles”-like room; naturally, all of this “over-the-top” refinement comes at “not-everyday” tabs, thus it’s best for “special occasions.”

We celebrated Valentine's Day early. My stuffed roasted chicken with truffles and foie gras was to die for - so was the seafood crepe. The staff was attentive AND something I appreciated is that we weren't rushed in any way. The ambiance and sound level is perfect. I loved the view of the Hudson River and the GW Bridge. Despite the upscale ambiance, jackets and ties are not required. Next time,...

Sitting on the pier in the Hudson River, X2O is a stunning restaurant with vaulted ceilings and glass walls offering magnificent views. Their original cuisine incorporates European technique with flavors from Asia and the Mediterranean.

Situated within the New York Palace Hotel, Gilt features a contemporary and inventive menu that is truly gourmet. Among the highlights, the grand seven-course tasting menu stands alone. It makes use of the architectural elegance left behind by the 1880s.

Know Before You Go

The main dining room is prix fixe only. The more casual bar room offers a la carte fare like truffle fries and rock shrimp tempura with pineapple, toasted pine nuts and spicy aioli.

Look Good

Grayz is just hidden enough to make you seem truly in-the-know--bring someone you want to impress.

Know Before You Go

Guests can enjoy small plates at sit-down tables, but if you're planning to go during the pre-theater rush, call ahead and make reservations.

What To Drink

Try a specialty cocktail like the Irish Day, made with Jameson's, pomegranate molasses, apple and lemon juice and cracked pepper, or the Passion for Ginger, a mix of ginger-infused vodka, lime juice, Cointreau, ginger syrup and passion fruit puree. Even at a pricey $14 they're worth every penny.

What to Drink

Nothing on the specialty cocktail menu is less than $20, and the voluminous wine list soars. Still, the diner on a budget can choose a handful of reds from Washington and Oregon and stay under $100 a bottle.
