Help us make it rightI started working for Made in Japan back in 1996 after graduating from Purdue in Aviation Tech. Moved to CA for the weather but, at the time, couldn't find work in manufacturing or aircraft. Originally, I started working here as an automotive tech until something else in my degree came up...

So....got my new Jeep last Friday... LOVE IT!!!! Drove it Friday night - Drove like a breeze!. Drove it Saturday. Perfectly fine. Sunday on the way to the park, it starts bucking and misfiring, as if the fuel injector was clogged or something. Stop at Kragen and get a bottle of fuel system cleaner - only 6 bucks.. if it doesn't work...well, it was only 6 bucks.
Sunday night, drive to my BIL's since he's a mechanic. Take him for a ride and he's thinking fuel system as well. Go to leave Sunday night... it won't start. Engine cranks, but no spark.
Have it towed to shop on monday morning. Guy calls me about 2 and says he is going to TRY and have it fixed before they close. Calls me back at 5 and tells me it needs a new cam shaft/shank something and he can have the part there in the morning around 9, and since it's already torn apart, they just have to install and put back together... should be ready around 10 or 11 on Tuesday.
I call at 2 pm on Tuesday to ask if my jeep is ready. It's back together and starting, but running rough and still mis/backfiring. I am assured they are trying to figure it out and working on it. I ask if they put it back on the diagnostic machine to diagnose it again... can't get a straight answer and something about how the diagnostic machine only gives them the neighborhood to look in - then they still have to fine the right house. I ask what neighborhood the machine said to look in - again, dodged the question, but not to worry, his mechanics are experienced and have a lot of knowledge. I explain that i'm not a mechanic, but if I fix one problem and discover it's doing something else after that, the first thing I would do it put it back on the diagnostic machine.
I also INSIST that he call me at noon today with an update, and then tonight, with another update if its not ready, since their lack of communication is what is the most frustrating. He assures me he will.
It's now 1:30 and no phone call.
So i call Don and tell him he was supposed to call me at noon. Apparently my dad had called HIM for an update so he told my dad, they now think it MIGHT be the timing chain and something about a cellenoid. My dad authorized them to do another inspection and tear down, in the amount of an ADDITIONAL $900+ on top of the already $110 inspection and $300 to replace a cam shaft/shank or something.
I asked if they had started the work yet and he said no. I told him i was UNauthorizing the work and would be down this afternoon to get my jeep so i could take it elsewhere.
On second thought, I likely should NOT have told them that, as these guys sound like the type that would do something to make my jeep even worse!
The ONLY reason this place get's one star from me is because I can't submit at review without it.... otherwise I would take stars away from any they currently have!!!
Stay away from these guys! They play the OLD SCHOOL tricks with charging $100 for diagnostic which every car since 1996 have a computer that keep trouble codes that Kragens and AutoZone will check for free. Check Engine light is on and they test drive it instead of plug it into a Code Reader. Their quoted parts price was also 4X the cost if I purchased at Kragens (which Kragens is considered high). The place was empty and they weren't working on any cars...I should have let that of been my indicator that they were not an auto shop worth using.
