One of the highlights of Jimmy Carter’s is supposed to be the calamari. While I thoroughly enjoyed my taste of it when I visited years ago, I found the current version to be much too salty. It still had the tender chew and light bread crumb coating, but it was far too salty for me to enjoy, which is a shame because there was a good amount included in the tostada.

Great little eatery, real deal mexican and helpful staff - we're not big on super hot food so they steered us in the right direction. Big plate of complimentary nacho chips when you arrive.
Jimmy Carter's Mexican Cafe is one of the restaurants I always enjoy when I am in San Diego and one of the few I make a special effort to go to. I ordered a veggie omelet with a hash brown. Delicious. My omelet was veggie packed and the hash brown was crispy, cooked all the way through. I know omelets are simple to make, but there was something about this one that was the most delicious I've had in a long time from a restaurant. Oh and their salsas were flavorful....
