Old-school cocktail lair that's also part of the trend of Hotels That Are Definitely Not Actual Hotels.
Enchanté, Chantelle. Gritty, old-LES hulk conceals sophisticated cocktailing inspired by Paris between the wars. Sweet Ups and Royal Oak offshoot, but this one is on a massive scale. Rooftop restaurant tricked out with topiary, basement dance lounge with exclusive keyed entry, something like Gramercy Park. Menu covers French colonial faves from New Orleans to Quebec to Vietnam. Barkeeps mix up...
First time for us to be here. Yes, we love it. There is live jazz music that is perfect paring with good food. Romantic for dating, but a bit noisy from jazz music, but yes, it is all good. We had Tuna Tatar Cigar, and Grilled Octopus for appetizers. Then, Lobster pot pie, and Steak for entree. Service is perfect. Will be back to try another dish.
Great brunch spot with great jazz bands. Amazingly delicious food and beautifully presented too.
Everything was really great - except for the noise level. The food, service, and decor is really rather nice, but because the tables are crammed in, the noise level is rather high. Which is fine, but on top of that, there was live music going on. Friendly service when she came to the table but not very attentive; I was upset when I called to confirm our reservation to find out that the rooftop was closed for a private party; I should have been told this much earlier.
We chose Hotel Chantelle because though it's not bottomless with $1 drink options, it's arguably better than a bottomless brunch. I gave this place 4 stars, because for what I was looking for..it delivered! The food was nothing spectacular, but I really just wanted serviceable food with substantial portions, Hotel Chantelle offered that, but nothing more in the way of food. Drinks were yummy...

On the corner of a historical neighborhood in downtown New York City, Hotel Chantelle stands where turn of the century immigrants from the Old World first settled in America. The bar reflects a faded elegance with a comfortable setting, while the rooftop offers a unique dining experience as an oasis from the crowded streets of New York. Hotel Chantelle seeks to be a neighborhood venue with a...
