No gold shield

I took my Volvo to Hillcrest Smog Test. They informed me that I had a gross polluter. "Can't run a diagnosis today...leave it here...I'll replace the catalytic converter and oxygen sensors...maybe two-three days...about $1,000...you'll still have to go to a test only center for certification because it is a gross polluter."

WRONG! I took the car home. Searched the Internet, learned how to check emission sensor connections and reset the ECU (do it yourself at no cost), drove to a Gold Shield Smog shop in Chula Vista, passed the test (no adjustments/repairs) and received a certificate for $49 (total).

Need a smog check/certification? Take my advice and look for a Gold Shield certified shop.
