Hattie's Restaurant Review

Walking into Hattie’s, you may experience a moment’s confusion as you wonder if you’ve somehow been transported to antebellum Charleston, rather than the Bishop Arts neighborhood of Dallas. Vintage tile floors, white tablecloths and high tin ceilings evoke an older, gentler time when people still sat down at 6 o’clock for an unhurried Sunday dinner on mother’s best china. Hattie’s may feel...

"Charleston comes to Dallas" via this American "gem" in a "buzzy area" of Oak Cliff turning out "contemporary", "fancified" takes on Lowcountry fare ("superb" shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles "to die for"), plus a standout Sunday brunch, in a "modern, civilized" setting; "impeccable" service, a "casual atmosphere" and moderate prices all "soothe the soul."

Barrel lamps and white ceramics warmly light this Bishop Arts spot, where original tin-stamp ceilings and elegant fixtures are together. An oversize print of a Willo Ware plate on the back wall reminds diners that this is classic fare, albeit with a Southern twist that shows up in dishes like shrimp and grits or hominy chicken soup. A polite, quite crowd sips wine and look gracious.

Set in a renovated storefront in one of the oldest areas of Dallas, Hattie’s is a stylish and inviting spot with a menu that’s a blend of upscale Southern charmers, a little Mediterranean inspiration, and a splash of new American seasonal cooking. And it is all pulled off with great success. The must-have appetizer is the broiled figs wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with blue cheese and...

Food, decor and presentation at this classy Bishop Arts District gem are simple, traditional and contemporary.

I went to Hattie's to celebrate a friend's birthday and what a treat for both of us!  Touted as Southern low country cuisine, I can vouch that their food makes you feel like you were actually in the low country of Charleston, SC or Savannah,...

Interesting place for dinner. Service was good, food was excellent, atmosphere was good (clean for 11 years in business) and bar was surprisingly good given its size. Had the Quail for dinner and Mule drink with infused Jalapeño. Dinner crowd ran late on a Wednesday...
