A longtime Atlanta stalwart, Hal's on Old Ivy shows Creole touches, with such dishes as Brabant potatoes, shrimp rémoulade, crawfish tails and gumbo. But if offered, the bone-in filet is the specialty. However, on our last visit, the first steak came out nearly well done, having been ordered medium rare (red), and the second was underdone. Rack of lamb with a mint jelly-influenced wine sauce...
A "perennial favorite" in the "old chophouse mode", this "quaint" North Buckhead steakhouse offers "fantastic" steaks and other "New Orleans"-inspired fare along with "awesome" service to a mostly "over-40 crowd"; "everyone seems to know everyone" in the "lively" setting with a "killer" piano bar, and while a few report "smoky", "noisy" conditions, most consider it a "neighborhood gem."
The Scene
With its bright stucco facade and startling '80s signage, Hal's could easily be mistaken for a deluxe tanning salon. But don't let that deter you from visiting this insider...
Probably sounds weird to go to a steakhouse for soup, but they have some of the best in town, a warm atmosphere and great staff.
Atlanta classic! Recommend this to anyone looking to have a great time with great food and a good pour! Best Filet I have ever had. Great place to people watch or celebrate with friends. There’s never a dull moment. A great place to bring friends, family, or coworkers visiting Atlanta (especially if it’s their first time)!
Amazing steak, good wine, and warm atmosphere.
The food and service was fantastic. We sat at the bar before our table was ready and the bartender was very nice and accommodating. Our waiter was also excellent. He gave suggestions and was prompt with all the drinks, appetizers and entree. Great experience!
Always love going to Hal’s. It is a must when in Atlanta. Been going for years!

A restaurant that triumphs in taste over trend, Hal's is not the typical highbrow restaurant so often equated with food of this quality. It is a place of white table cloths, flowers, warm brick, & candlelight.
If you dig the scene at Hal's, follow the crowd for some late-night dancing at Johnny's Hideaway.
