Help us make it rightChef Brian Malarkey has added a little culinary punch to the sleepy town of La Mesa. In keeping with his cowboy-inspired cuisine that favors meats, hefty portions and various barbecue styles, Gingham is about hearty, full-flavored food. Dinnertime dishes range from brisket with “Momma’s Dry Rub” and hot link, to pork shoulder accented with “Julian Cider” and paired with fried kale. Earlier in...
The latest offering in fabric-named eateries from Top Chef contestant Brian Malarkey has quickly become THE hotspot in historic downtown La Mesa, as oxymoronic as that sounds. Call it Urban Cowboy Diner or Meat Market Cuisine, the selection of slow-roasted, smoked, charbroiled and oil-boiled (aka fried) meats and fish will make any carnivore salivate. Whole trout is crunchy-fried outside,...
Service was terrible, as was the ambiance (hard chairs, small tables). The food was mediocre. The major problem was the noise. You couldn't hear anyone next to, or across of you at your own table.
I got the impression that no one really cared about the customers. When I'd look over to get our waitress, they were mainly busy socializing...
Was over priced and too little food. Not a good fit for the area. The portions were small, the drinks outrageous pricing. He didn't have a good marketing manager

Been here a couple of times and find it enjoyable. They have a nice bar area and a great outdoor seating area. Not to keen on the upstairs. Fried chicken, BLT fries and cornbread muffins are some of the down home country style fare found here. Service was good and pretty reasonable.
My daughter-in-law and I went to Gingham for the first time and had an excellent lunch. We both ordered the pulled pork sandwich and ice tea. The food arrived quickly and hot, our drinks were replenished regularly. The service was attentive and the waitress was very informative.
We had a great lunch and strolled the village of La Mesa afterwards.
Gingham is located at 8384 La Mesa Blvd, La Mesa, CA..
