California's largest wooden roller coaster sits just off the sand in Mission Beach's family-oriented Belmont Park. Read More

This seaside amusement park was opened in 1925 by business tycoon John D. Spreckels. No, it wasn't quite the magnanimous gesture it seems; it was actually a real estate scheme to lure people to what was then a scarcely populated area. Today, Belmont Park's star attraction is the Giant Dipper roller coaster , one of two surviving fixtures from the original park and a registered National...

California's largest wooden roller coaster sits just off the sand in Mission Beach's family-oriented Belmont Park.

A local landmark, the Giant Dipper is one of two surviving fixtures from the original Belmont Amusement Park (the other is The Plunge swimming pool). If you are looking for just pure enjoyment, I would highly recommend this park to you. I am sure that you would not get disappointed.

Best entertainment for the price and nice on the beach.

Really cool

To have a roller coaster right on the beach is pretty awesome and the only reason to ride it. The roller coaster itself is a compact wooden coaster that would probably never be large enough to fit in a real amusement park like six flags. It is 6 tickets ($6) to ride which made it something just to pass up....

Exciting ride

Take the kids and give them a thrill. More to do here then just the roller coaster so you can make a day of it. Good value.

great restoration

Belmont seems tired and trite but the Giant Dipper hasn' t lost her charm. A great restoration has brought back the thrill from 80 years ago - free parking and 6 ticket price makes the nearly 2 minute ride worth the trip.
