under new management, the fong and dang how families have combined
their talents to give all customers a wonderful variety of chinese
dishes, great service, and a full bar (for those interested in
that)
all this in the center of castro valley, with plenty of off street
parking.

This place is really good. I drive all the way from Santa Clara
to go eat there (in Castro Valley, near Hayward). I particularly
suggest their cashew chicken and beef fried rice. The price is
right, the taste is right, the portions are big, and the staff
is very helpful and extremely friendly. Highly recommended.
I have been eating there a couple of times a month for the last 4
years..

Revisted New Fongs New Chef

I revisited FONGS in Castro Valley fall of 2009..I was pleasantly surprised to see the new owners have a new chef and menu. The CV area is been inundated with hot plate 4.99 Asian restaurants up and down the main strip of 94546. But FONGS bu...

Very standard, dirty

The food is very standard and blah and greasy. The Chinese chicken salad has pounded, fried chicken, looks like breast, but the other chicken dishes have exceptionally bad, grissley chicken. They use MSG and can't take it out of some dishes, so beware if it bothers you. This restaurant is in need of a facelift and a heavy cleaning. There is dust everywhere and it's really shabby inside. There was one table of Asians dining, out of 6. The plus is that the server was very nice and the service was decent. With so many Asian restaurants around, it boggles me that we can't find a good one...

Chinese comfort food

I'm not a foodie, but I think about sitting down at Fong's Dang How several times a month. This restaurant is my hands down favorite of any cusine, in any city. The food is seasoned well, the service is excellent, and the menu features Chinese standards. It is true that the menu has gone unchanged for some time; but that stability is crucial to folks who become annoyed with discontinued menu items, seasonal items, and changes in pricing. When I come home to Hayward, I know the egg foo yung will taste exactly as good as it did the last time. I live in Houston, on a budget, and most of the...
