STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!!!
I rented a saxophone for two weeks. Had to wait for Claude for almost an hour on the street. This was the best part...After two weeks I returned the saxophone. One month later Claude charged my credit card for $762.13!!!
I called him a dozen times. Finally he answered and mumbled something about a mistake and that he will refund the money and send me an email confirmation.
Nothing happened. I filed a fraud complaint at the credit card.
Finally, after writing a review online and filing the complaint the money was returned. Claude had the nerve to write to me...

They sold me - as new - a very expensive instrument that was not only used, but that had been damaged and on which they had done the crappiest 'repair' job you can imagine. Now I know why they keep it so dark in that little dump - if you could see what you were buying you'd run out the door into the daylight or the nearest precinct.

They are scammers; trash that give NYC a bad name to tourists and newcomers (I am neither, btw). They will cheat you whenever they can, as you can see by the negative reviews.

I get why some people like it - they're the 'anti-Guitar Center'; a little...

1) Hard to find gear is likely to turn up here.
2) Competitive prices on regular retail stuff.
3) Think of it as the ""neighborhood music store for working musicians"" - need a part? consignment? upgrade? I've brought Fender Guitars there, had Ovations repairs done there, purchased pedals, sold stuff on consignment, had a Peavey amp overhauled. Very happy and satisfied each time around. I act like a normal person, do some homework, know what I want and ask for it , politely, and I am treated with respect.

If something was promised the next day, I call before heading down to confirm. I...
