Help us make it rightSometimes you need an office outside of the office; a home away from home. Dirk's sits where Montrose meets both the Museum District and the University of St. Thomas. The incredibly diverse mix of customers, regulars, and employees is a comfort for anyone looking for a refreshing change. Go in anytime and get a fresh and chewy bagel to go along with your perfect latte for a mere four bucks....
Go here for the iced coffee or frozen coffee drinks. The jumper cable (frozen coffee extract, vanilla, cream) is a house fave. Free wi-fi.
Formerly Diedrich's, this coffee shop has changed in name but not in quality. Coffee snobs and bums alike have come here for years to enjoy a cup of drip coffee. Try several varieties of mocha...
This spot used to be Deidrich's Coffee Shop. The shop doesn't look like it has been updated since it was Deidrich's, which means it doesn't have comfortable seating. The coffee was okay, but the lack of comfortable seating and general worn-in look of the interior didn't give the right vibe.
Another of my neighborhood haunts. I love their coffee and their staff is always friendly - especially at 6am in the morning when I am in a whirl to get in and get out. I also love the quirky post of their sign out front -- it is always something funny that makes you think. This is a solid Montrose choice - one of my favorites.

Dirk's is pretty run-of-the-mill café fare. I've had better, but I've had worse. The two best things about this place is the sole picnic table in the back of the patio and the stack of newspapers and community fliers they have inside near the bathrooms. You could spend hours checking out what's going on around Montrose by reading all the publications.
Excellent assortment of coffee's and pastries. A nice place to sit outside and people watch.
Very reasonable prices, and good friendly service
Parking: Very limited parking spaces in front mean serious jockeying or desperate searching on the streets.
Where to Sit: This small space has some patio space if you need room to stretch, although the free Wi-Fi may be fragile.
Fun Fact: Dirk Smith retained this particular Diedrich's franchise when the company, based in Irvine, CA, sold their retail stores in 2006 in order to focus on wholesaling. Dirk recently had to choose changing the name over selling the store, but he invites you to still call it Diedrich's if it makes you feel better.
Formerly Diedrich's, this coffee shop has changed in name but not in quality. Coffee snobs and bums alike have come here for years to enjoy a cup of drip coffee. Try several varieties of mocha (peppermint, Mayan, caramel, macadamia nut) or pick up a bag of single-origin beans from the Pacific Islands. Dirk's usually friendly baristas provide quick service and short lines for those on the go and, for the malingerers, a quiet unobtrusive atmosphere often occupied by focused patrons perusing papers at the café tables. Situated right on Montrose, it's an ideal place to sit and watch life stream...
