Help us make it rightTiny slice of Mexico's southern state of Oaxaca, with a bit of an identity crisis. Menu claims "we are not a Mexican restaurant," but caliente y dulce delicacies speak otherwise. Namesakes get their due in awesome mole-heavy spicefest of elevated homestyle fare. Cocoa butter paint job and only a fistful of tables, worth the wait. BYOB. Fried grasshoppers, a Oaxacan specialty. Grab 'em quick!

Unlike the spacious digs of its Seventh Avenue neighbors, this restaurant barely fits in a handful of tables and a kitchen. That leaves the neighborhood-heavy crowd--desperate...

Most disappointing "Mexican" food I've ever had. Very very slow service too. It should have been a clue when the place was empty on a Friday night. The food was barely edible, and we left and went somewhere else. Do yourself a favor & don't waste your time on this place!

Since 2007 the company has been providing Chocolate.
Chiles & Chocolate serves authentic Oaxacan Mexican food from its cozy Seventh Avenue location. Specializing in mole dishes, the restaurant also offers tacos, chilaquiles, tamales, flautas and soups. The restaurant features a selection of specialty Mexican drinks, including hot chocolate with chilis. Brunch is available on weekends, and free delivery is provided.
Wild menu item alert: When available, crispy fried grasshoppers, an Oaxacan delicacy, are available as a guacamole topper.
A three-course prix fixe is available for $25 and comes with soda or agua fresca.
If none of the many nonalcoholic drinks available--chile-infused hot chocolate, aguas frescas or horchata--fit the bill, pick up wine or beer at nearby Park Slope Liquor.
The brunch menu includes items such as breakfast burritos, scrambled eggs with chorizo and Oaxacan toast, which is like chocolate French toast topped with fruit, cream and honey.
