San Francisco's California Academy of Sciences has been entertaining locals and tourists for more than 150 years, and with the grand opening of the all-new Academy in 2008, it's now going stronger than ever. Four years and $500 million in the making, the new Academy is the "greenest" museum in the world, and the only institution in the world to combine an aquarium, planetarium, natural history...

Among the world's largest natural-history museums, the California Academy of Sciences is as renowned for its collection—over 26 million specimens gathered over the past 150 years—as it is for the building that houses them. Opened in late 2008, the Renzo Piano–designed museum earned a LEED Platinum certification for its eco-sensibility. Vast expanses of glass, crisscrossed by recycled-steel...

This fully sustainable, state-of-the-art alter to SF's inner science geek houses six times the number of live sea creatures and tons more cool Earth-friendly stuff than the previous incarnation.

For those who think science museums are reserved for third grade field trips and retired seniors, this remarkable space dedicated to biology, astronomy, zoology and ecology will blow your mind....

I really loved the coral reef and tropical rainforest exhibits. It was like being transported across the globe for part of my day. I also really liked the colorful mineral exhibit and was lucky enough to catch the penguin feeding!

Such a fun place. Went with my nephews who are 5 and 7 and the entire staff is so good with kids. The kids loved seeing Claude, exploring the living roof and seeing the rainforest. We will definitely go back soon. Please participate in NARM!

I was pleasantly surprised at what this place had to offer! Although the planetarium was down, (and no where in the website did it mention this not being open/available), we had a great time! There was more to explore so we'll be back again!

Bummer that planetarium is under renovation - but the rest of experience was really great. With two 11-year olds there was way more to do than we could get through on the 4 hours we had. Aquarium is outstanding. Albino Alligator is a must. Earthquake experience was really impressive. Lots of cool "micro" exhibits which are perfect for kids with somewhat short attention spans. All in all...

As always it's pretty good. Was a little disappointed with the gem exhibit. Needed to be in a bigger room so people can enjoy it better. Got pretty crowded. Other than that it was nice.
