We saw Dr Ziegler at the Rockaway NJ office. My dog has been unsuccessfully treated for his skin conditions for over 2 years, no doctor has been able find the root cause of this skin issues so we have been on trial and error to treat him for mange, food allergies, environmental allergies, parasites and so on, then Dr Burke put him on low thyroid medication and for the first time in 2 years he finally stopped scratching his head to bleed, he has been on it for 3 months and is the only medication that had ever shown signs of improving my dog's condition.
Then, when it was time to have his blood rechecked I took my dog back to the Rockaway Petsmart vet office, a Dr. Ziegler took my dog in the back and 20 minutes or so later came back very agitated with this $1,400 long list of treatment saying "he has a bad case of food allergies and needs to start treatment right away" to what I said: "no, you need to stop and listen to me" but when I tried to explain that my dog had already been unsuccessfully treated for allergies, parasites, sarcoptic mange IN THIS SAME OFFICE and a previous clinic without success and that the only treatment that seemed to help my dog so far had been the low thyroid medication, not only she loud her voice, kept cutting me off in such disrespectful manner not stopping for a second to listen, this younger vet (not sure if she is even a licensed vet but will investigate) was very loud and confrontational, I asked if she could at least continue my dog's hypothyroid medication because my dog had been finally showing improvement for the first time, she denied any medication and simply said: "I'm done listening to you" in a very loud tone, my dog went back to scratching his neck to bleed which he had stop after 3 months of low thyroid pills treatment.
Regardless of her medical opinion, respect and consideration needs to come before anything a medical professional needs to listen when someone wants to explain the dog's medical history and treatment received and if previous treatments has proven ineffective why go back and extend a pet's suffering and not put him back on the treatment that is working or instead order other tests that can provide a diagnostic, I find no reason for a vet to be so unprofessional and to treat a customer so disrespectfully as she did. I was in disbelief that this vet at Banfield treated a customer with such lack of respect and consideration but I kept calm and professional (all other vets and staff are super friendly and go above and beyond) honestly I never expected this from someone at this office.
Finally I went to another Vet this week, after a couple of tests, my dog finally had a diagnostic: demodex mange and hypothyroidism! confirmed with blood work and under microscope, why weren't these tests performed before? By the way, all tests and treatment was under 500 dollars!
BEWARE they may even call SPCA on you if you refuse their expensive treatment.
Horrible! The only thing they care about is your credit card. If that was sick I'm sure they could fit it in but your dog, no sorry they are booked. Five days solid!?? Doubtful. Couldn't care less...
