After sourcing "fresh" produce from local purveyors, chef/co-owner Colin MacLaggan and his team whip up "creative", "well-prepared" American fare at this Bankers Hill bistro also known for "nicely poured" cocktails and "affordable" wines; the "pretty", "spacious" setting, featuring "coveted" window tables, is managed with aplomb by an "enthusiastic", "unpretentious" staff that helps get diners...
This high-energy restaurant, a labor of love, is a successful union between two longtime friends in the food business who banded together to create what is truly a neighborhood eatery. General manager Nick Carbonne is the ideal host. He’s happy to lead you through the well-constructed yet simple menu of seasonal American dishes crafted with French flair. Executive chef Colin MacLaggan was...
In Short
The Maclaggan's came together on this one. Mom Patricia designed the sleek space, pitting exposed brick walls against a chic palate of dark espresso wood floors and pops of moss...
So I started this review and apparently I never finished it.. We had: Waiawi nectar cocktail Pei mussels Yellowtail Duck confit Everything was really good...
I'm very sorry to report that Avenue 5 is no more. Despite very good and affordable dining the restaurant just never quite took off. I think that they were a bit under financed and could'nt promote as well as they should and perhaps the location was just a couple of blocks too far away from Laurel to get any over-flow...
Every dish here is excellent. Quality food. Not too crowded but not empty either. Alcoholic beverages are tasty. Kale salad was yum. Try everything if you can
We stumbled into this restaurant and were pleasantly surprised. Attentive and personal service and a very interesting menu. They offer some small plates which are a great idea to share in 'tapas' style.
the service was good and the bar seats were confortable and they did have bud lite for 3$ but a real beer cost 7$ during their happy hour soooo walk 2 blocks west to Bertrand at Mr A's (2550 5th ave)-4$ beer (excellent local beers) and open air seating on the 12th floor with SPECTACULAR views -planes are below you...

Ave5 Restaurant and Bar opened its doors in August 2007. European trained owner and Chef Colin Maclaggan and his family created an eclectic restaurant specializing in the highest quality fresh farm-to-table modern American Cuisine at moderate prices. Ave5 offers a full bar, molecular mixology, a variety of local micro-breweries, 20+ wines by the glass, supported by an extensive list of old and...
Avenue 5 has earned a place in the hearts of crowds of San Diego foodies and gourmands. With good reason! The menu features seared scallops with poached pear risotto, fennel crusted lamb and the like, and the prix fixe dinner is a great deal. Their happy hour has gotten a lot of press, too, with bargain prices on things like crab cakes, mushroom tortellini, and duck confit. Flawless service and...
Avenue 5 Restaurant & Bar offers exposed brick walls, dark wood floors, and moss-green chairs. Their menu features seasonal selections such as Butter Lettuce Salad, Seared Foie Gras, and Wild Salmon. Save room for their Chocolate Decadence or Black Plum Tart desserts. They also have a full bar. The service is great, the ambiance is relaxed, and the food is affordable.
Ave 5 is San Diego’s favorite restaurant for local food & craft cocktails in a casually-refined setting with downtempo lounge music. Much of Ave 5’s menu offerings are grown in the garden tended by local farmers.
There is a "back room" perfect for small parties and private dinners, but be sure to reserve in advance.
General Manager Nicolas Carbonne isn't part of the Maclaggan family technically, but he has an impressive pedigree, including stints at Dakota's and Tapenade.
The menu is a la carte--not tapas. It's more upscale than tapas. There are traditional entrees, appetizers and desserts. You just order the sides separately.
