Our old heat pump was working ok but not great. It was made in 1987. We had heard a radio ad for a complete new unit installed for $3999 from a well known HVAC company so we had the guy come out on Friday. His rough estimate bid was about $10,000 for a new unit installed. Thinking this was high, we said no for now. He offered to go on the roof to see how old the existing unit is to give an estimate of how much we could save on our electric bills. We said no thank you and he was gone. He was very nice. This is just a WARNING to anyone here. Watch out for this guy, will take advantage of you and he does not give you a of list or quote of materials, he just gives you a quote to how much he thinks it will cost to fix it. Average rates for HVAC is under $100 per hour, but he basically charged my elderly mom over $350 an hour and refused to provide a breakdown of costs or parts.
I called Dave who was recommended on Yelp to help my Mom on her house's AC. He seemed pretty trustworthy, he came out once to give an estimate of $800 to repair the unit.
