Austin's eclectic downtown movie theater shows independent and classic films while serving beer, wine and a full dinner menu.

In Short
Lovers of independent films, classic cinema and 20th century kitsch flock to Austin's flagship movie theater. Relocated from its original Warehouse District venue to the classic...

Liked the movie. Food not so much

Having a beer with a film is great. I gave the food another chance Feel me on this. . It would seem that each savory menu item provides you with your recommended daily salt intake x 1 week. It was definitely appetite suppressing. There is something sort of unreal about the burger meat. But the beverages are a sure bet.

Great concept, just like home

We saw Gravity here last night. Fantastic movie and nice to be able to have drinks and popcorn delivered! The menu is varied and pretty affordable considering you are in a theatre. I appreciated the use OD reusable cups and bowels so little litter and trash. This location is right on 6th street so you pour right out into the...

Unpleasant odor in the theatre. Seating with tables not as nice to see a movie in as stadium seating at other theatres.

Alamo Drafthouse at the Ritz. Wen't to see a movie after day three of ACLU 2013 was washed away by rain. They had a very good triple on tap and a solid selection of wines. We got the cheese plate and it was excellent. Old theater with the infrastructure updated but a lot of the original decor in place. Saw...

Tips about this business (5)

What to Eat

Atypical theater fare fills the menu--pizzas with campy movie-related names like "Poultrygeist" Chicken Pesto complement bottles of Fat Tire or Anchor Porter.

The Extras

Spawned by the comedic creators of Alamo's infamous and retired Sinus Show, Master Pancake Theater's live cast mocks a different plot-challenged movie each month.

Know Before You Go

Seasonal Rolling Road Shows offer clever pairings of films and Austin locations, like "Jaws" at Lake Travis and "Goonies" in a cave.

Look Good

Want to impress your date? Skip the bucket of beer and order a bottle of vino to complement your film.

Fun Fact

At various times between 1964 and 2007, the Ritz served as an adult theater, comedy house, punk music club and pool hall.
