In ShortSwanky apointments like velvet-lined booths, imported art and solid-gold accents are only available to those who purchase a private membership to Alex Thao's hip, Fourth Avenue night spot. But here's the secret: Anyone who's eating--or just waiting for a table at adjacent Rama--can enjoy the comforts of the lounge, too. With an expert sushi-roller on hand, and extensive list of exotic wines and pricey cocktails, the scene is most definitely upscale.

why can't we all go?

I love hanging out here when i'm waiting for my table at Rama....but why can't we all stop in for a drink? I'm not sure if i like the ""exclusivity"" of it -- seems a little snobby to have a place right on the street, with the windows open and outdoor seating, but then not let anybody in! I guess they do it to avoid crowds and have better service for their VIP clientele, but I'm just not sure that policy will fly in San Diego.

Pros

+ cool atmosphere

Cons

- too exclusive
