This is a great place to have lunch in downtown Brownsville. It has a nice quiet atmosphere which is very conducive to a pleasant experience. The staff is very helpful and friendly. As for the food, it was excellent. I had the shrimp platter and my business associate had the fisherman's platter, both of which were well served and excellent....

Classic Brownsville

A visit to the downtown location of the Oyster Bar was like a trip back in time. The fried shrimp was great -- very fresh, lightly battered and promptly served. The décor is definitely retro, and takes you back to the 1970s. The staff was friendly and attentive. I recommend this place.

This is a classic, old style seafood restaurant serving good food without the frills. The seafood is fresh - the oysters and shrimp particularly good when we were there - and the menu is pretty basic. Great seafood lunch

I have eaten here a number of times for years now and the food is always great. I had the half and half order (fried shrimp and fried oysters) and it's always delicious. Unlike other places where they heavily bread their shrimp and oyster, here the breading is just right. Their service staff is great and friendly.
