In this age of multiplexes, Studio 35 is a classic. It opened in 1938 as the Indianola Theater and is one of only three theaters remaining from those days. In 1995, the...
I used to agree with your thoughts on the sound quality completely, but they've improved the audio considerably within the last year or so.
I remember going to Studio 35 with my brother, an art student at the time. I was about 11 years old, it was around 1972. They screened an all night Marx Brothers festival, something like five films. By the beginnig of the third film we had both fallen fast asleep in our chairs.
Used to be a fairly good revival theatre back in the day, these days just a relic from the past showing mainstream films.
I love this theatre but for one important issue ? the sound quality. It is so poor that you can?t understand any of the dialogue (especially if it is an action movie with loud effects).
Also, it is in serious need of remodeling. Some of the seating is newer, but the walls are covered with old, moldy murals and falling plaster.
Go for the pizza and beer, but not the movies.
Pros
+ Food / beer
Cons
- Lousy sound.
This is such a great theater that has wonderful character. The price is less than the big chain theaters and you can order food and sit at a table or at the bar while you watch the movie! Check it out!
Pros
+ Inexpensive, uncrowded, tables
Cons
- seats aren't on a slope, so you can't see if someone sits in front of you.
What Sark M. said. Old school theater. Great price for college students (bring your id), park and walk, non-shady neighborhood. Support your local businesses, especially ones with character like this one. You feel vintage just being in the...
