Updating an old family recipe for donuts cooked over an open fire, this River North bakeshop from Jonathan Fox (La Madia) turns out a dozen artisanal flavors in a spiffy, counter-serve setting with a tiled back wall and jewler-quality glass vitrine to display the goods. Get there early though, because it closes once the daily bake runs out.

Oh course, we got the ice cream count with caramel sauce and it was amazing. The shop was really cute, wish it was a little bigger but that's Chicago for you!
