Breakfast—make that power breakfast—and lunch are popular with the business set at this small, classy restaurant in the Lancaster Hotel downtown, but dinner is the ticket, especially for the pre-theater crowd. Chef Jamie Zelko offers a changing seasonal menu based on fresh local ingredients. Try the crab cakes and bread pudding. Brunch is available on weekends. The adjacent Bistro Bar has a...

In the heart of the Theater District, this small luxury hotel has the feel of a European manor house. The Chippendale furniture, plaid upholstered chairs, oil landscapes and portraits, and brass cachepots contrast with the steel-and-glass surroundings. Power breakfasters crowd Bistro Lancaster, and the hotel's wine bar is both highly rated and highly popular.

For those who enjoy the performing arts and nightlife, there is no better place to stay in Houston. Within 1 block of the Lancaster are the symphony, the ballet, the opera, and the Alley Theatre, and when reserving a room, you can have the concierge buy tickets for performances at any of these venues as well as others in the Theater District. Also a block away is Bayou Place, where you can...

Bistro Lancaster Restaurant Review

Bistro Lancaster is a downtown landmark located in the heart of the theater district in the elegant Lancaster hotel, which makes it a prime spot to dine before an evening of the arts. The intimate dining room has the look of an English manor with deep green walls, botanical prints and a handsome bar. The menu features creative American cuisine, small plates inspired by the Mediterranean, and...

A small, sophisticated hotel showcasing history and the arts.

Billed as Houston's only small luxury hotel, this historic property was constructed during the flapper era and transformed in the 1980s. It is convenient for lovers of the arts, as the Theater District and Wortham Center are nearby. Flags of different nations welcome guests as they approach the beveled-glass and brass front doors. The 93 guestrooms and suites are each equipped with a sitting...

Although the food was excellent I would hesitate to recommend this restaurant other than for its convenience when going to the theater district. It is quite close to several theaters which gives it appeal and the food truly is excellent. So what's the downside? I felt the menu was a bit limited and the pricing quite high especially for wine. One or two glasses of wine at 10, all others 13+....
