On Sunday, August 16, driving the car between my home in Newark and Santa Cruz, I noticed a small problem: the car had little power going uphill. This problem occurred going up long inclines; the car was otherwise very capable.
On Monday, August 17, I took the car to the above Purrfect Auto Service #75 to explain this problem. They examined the car, replaced the fuel filter and charged me $225.82. They returned the car on Tuesday, August 18.
A drive over the Dumbarton Bridge confirmed that replacing the fuel filter did not fix the problem. However, my car was no worse than it had been on August 16.
On Wednesday, August 19, I returned the car to the above Purrfect Auto Service #75 so that they could fix the problem. On Friday, August 21, they called me to tell me that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. They replaced the catalytic converter and charged me $251.52. I picked up the car on August 25, with the recommendation that I replace the alternator at some point.
The second repair left my car difficult to manage: Pressing the gas pedal accelerated the car erratically. During constant-speed driving, the gas pedal unexpectedly fluctuated between partial and full acceleration: randomly, about one-tenth of the time, acceleration dropped for several seconds. Acceleration left and returned without warning. None of this behavior had occurred before August 19.
On Saturday, August 29, for the last time, I took the car to Purrfect Auto Service #75 along with an early copy of this letter. (Draft enclosed.) On Wednesday, September 2, they called me to tell me that they would replace the alternator, verify that it caused the problem, and would uninstall it if it had not caused the problem. Later the same day, they called to say that replacing the alternator fixed the problem. I picked up the car on Thursday, September 3, and paid $336.40.
Although the repair seemed to slightly improve the problem, replacing the alternator did not fix the problem. Driving the car at a constant speed still finds the car occasionally dropping power then returning. This automobile behavior is dangerous in traffic: sudden, unexpected acceleration could cause me to hit another car.
In exchange for $813.74 and for losing the use of my car for thirteen days, Purrfect Auto Service #75 has left my car worse than it had been.

the shop had my car 2 weeks. said to pick it up, ready to go. cost very expensive. drove it from Fremont to Hayward, had to call fire dept. car was smoking, oil-and temp. lights came on. fire dept. said the shop did not adjust my belts correctly, therefore my belts melted. the car had to be towed back to shop and now shop says i need to pay for a water pump and labor... why pay for bad...
Purrfect auto repair is just an ordinary auto shop. They seem to know what they are doing but honestly, they are overpriced. I brought my car in to be fixed for a tiny problem and they took a long time so they charged me a lot on the labor. This auto shop is not really anything that I would recommend.
